This lecture features the astonishing new views from the Solar Dynamics Observatory, NASA's mission to the Sun. The Sun is no ordinary place; a million times bigger than the Earth, its storms cause power outages and aurorae here on Earth. SDO seeks to uncover mysteries too bright to look at. We'll also show a quick planetarium show, and we'll see what's up in our night sky.

All events of the Inwood Astronomy Project are free, open to the public and family-friendly. There will also be free NASA handouts, posters and lithographs for everyone who attends.

About The Lectures

Supported by NASA/JPL's Solar System Ambassador Program, each lecture show is a two-hour space and sky slide show highlighting current NASA missions. We'll discuss the science and discoveries, view many astonishing photos from NASA's current space and planetary missions and learn about up-to-date astronomy news. It's a great way to learn Astronomy with a knowledgable NASA/JPL volunteer to answer all your questions. All lectures are free, open to the public, and suitable for kids and families. There will also be free NASA handouts, posters and lithographs for everyone who comes.

Location

The lecture will be at the Inwood Hill Park Nature Center, located in Inwood Park at 218th and Indian Road, in Northern Manhattan. (212-304-2365) To get there by train, take the "A" train to the 207th Street stop. Walk West to Inwood Hill Park. Go down to the waterfront and you'll see a large building. That is the nature center.
